“When I was born, I was doomed to be a ‘criminal’s’ daughter, because my father is a dissident. My father is a great artist, an excellent writer, a democracy fighter, but he suffered great injustice; he was put into prison for over 16 years. Since I was a child, I was derided and marginalized in school. I always felt helpless and confused; do I have to bear the misery of living in constant fear all my life?

In 2018, I came to the United States, since then I have been told that my father is a hero. For the first time, I made a speech about my family, I participated in a pro-democracy activity, I was interviewed by the media without fear. In the United States, there is no sarcasm or assault to my family, I am no longer under surveillance by the Chinese government. Here, freedom of religious beliefs are respected and protected. Since my arrival to the United States, I have been baptized and have become a Christian.”
